There is an unspoken irony to the religious fundamentalist war against toleration today. All religious fundamentalists hate the drug-using, gay and women liberating, and promiscuous values supposedly promoted by liberals and so-called “Hollywood”.
All three extremists, Muslim, Hindu and Christian fundamentalists are against drinking booze and drugs. They all believe that children should obey their parents and wives should obey their husbands. They all believe that a woman’s place is in the house. They are all against abortion, gay marriage and rock and roll.
In essence, they fundamentally agree with each other. Yet Ironically, they are most bent on killing what would be their natural allies. This apparent contradiction can only result finally in their mutual elimination and the ultimate victory of liberal and “Hollywood” values. Because of this, there is really no need to violently struggle against intolerant fundamentalism. Their doing a great job all by themselves.

Yes but they are also killing many many innocent people also and perpetuating the feeling that violence is the solution to every problem.

Actually, more people are killed in train crashes and ferry sinkings in India every year than the Mumbai Terror attack. Is anybody in India interested in improving safety standards? Actually, not a whole hell of a lot of people are being killed by terrorists. If we were really interested in saving lives we could save a lot more by improving simple safety standards. But we’re not interested in saving lives or rather the mass media is not really interested in saving lives. They need to sell product and terror attacks that kill far less than industrial accidents evoke strong emotions and make flashy headlines.
Actually, only the media is perpetuating the feeling that violence is the solution to everything.
These terrorist have no access to the media. They can’t determine how these stories are spun. Does the media show how Muslims and Jews or Hindus are working together everyday for peace? No, those organizations are ”overlooked”, we’re told that they’re not newsworthy or we’ll just mention these type of organizations once in a while. If the media wanted to create a climate of peace they would show these peace groups everyday.
It’s funny how many major peace demonstrations with thousands of Jews and Palestinians occur in Israel every year and not one is ever on the mass media in the United States.
Don’t be hypnotized by the mass media. They are not a neutral medium simply dolling out the news. It’s very carefully presented to evoke the strongest negative emotional response possible. The idea is to make the news seem crucially important and keep you coming back for more. After all, if the news told how people were working and living together and were able to overcome hardship by unity, why would you need to tune in everyday? You would be confident that everything was OK and there was no big emergency.
Emergency, emergency, emergency, the media needs it and needs to manufacture it if nothing is happening.

So very right about media. But I take the liberty to disagree with you on the statement that only medis is responsible for the feeling that killing solves problems. This is something perpetuated by conformity to a culture and rooted practice of suffering and inflicting suffering. Media does sensationalize war and violence news but it does not acquit the warlords and tyrants of the culpability.
As for the issues of homosexuality, racism, and unsafe levels of living, I would credit the mainstream media since we know about these issues in detail only due to media coverage. The function of media is not to conceal ugliness but to explore it in as positive a way as possible.

Interesting, a 173 people get killed in Mumbai by so-called Muslim terrorists and everyone is up in arms. Over 100,000 women are burned to death every year in India and nobody cares. That’s almost 600 times more deaths. That’s why I say we’re either victims of the media or just plain stupid. We get riled up by what the media tells us to get angry about. The actual number of people getting killed means nothing.
The real terrorists are men (and I’m a man!) and the real Terror war is happening against women. This terror war is supported by the United States and all countries and the media by silence. But we don’t want to fight this war because it means women will end up getting equal rights and equal pay.
